The compact sewerage treatment plants come in different variants to cater for the sewerage requirements of a single house with up to 6 full time occupants to systems that will cater for entire housing estates. The two primary systems are the Bio Disc and the Airflow system.
Shown right is the Bio Disc arrangement which creates a large surface area for the natural bacteria required to break down the effluent in the waste that comes into the system. This works in a similar way to many large scale odour free industrial systems used in the UK by the large water companies. The trick here is to create a large surface area for the bacteria to thrive on whilst keeping the physical size of the system to a minimum.
These installations of Micro Sewerage treatment systems comply with EN 12566 3 and are supplied with EU certificate of conformity.

The
systems are quiet, odour free and require little maintenance. Their
other main benefits are that they require much less space than a traditional
septic tank system and the final output is less deemed clean enough
to go straight into a water course.
